Ustroń-Zawodzie Sanatorium-Spa District has been built between 1959-1970. The project design was entrusted to well-proven architectural duo Henryk Buszko & Alensander Franta (authors of Katowice’s Millenium Estate) who in co-operation with Tadeusz Szewczyk proposed a complex of 28 residential buildings for future Spa-guests in the unusual pyramid-shape. Buildings were loosely distributed upon the Równica mountain slope and surounded by greenery. But the real center and dominant of the entire district was the enormous Równica Spa-House building referring to the best modernist tradition and following Corbusier’s principles of architecture. Bold project remained unfinished due to many finacial obastacles. Only 17 of the 28 pyramids were built.
